A Rooney Rule for players
Surprisingly, an unemployed black coach believes that professional football teams should have to interview black coaches before even thinking about who they want to hire:
Pro Football Hall of Famer Jerry Rice was seated next to Edwards on the SportsCenter set when the subject came up, and Rice questioned whether any minority candidate would agree to interview for the Saints’ interim head coaching job. All indications out of New Orleans are that if the Saints go outside the franchise for an interim head coach, they’re going to hire Parcells. And that means any minority candidate they interview would know in advance that the purpose of the interview is to satisfy the letter of the Rooney Rule, even after they’ve already violated the spirit of the Rooney Rule.Given that there are far too many black players in the NFL compared to their percentage of the American population, why isn't there a Rooney Rule for players? Why isn't the NFL addressing the problem of insufficient Asians and women on the football field? I think the Saints ought to comply with the rule by bringing in a drug-addled Negro crack whore and interviewing her before hiring Bill Parcells, thus complying with the rule while treating it with all the seriousness that it deserves.
“I know for me, I would not want to go do an interview if I’m not going to get that job,” Rice said.
Edwards added that the Saints have already, by reaching out to Parcells but not reaching out to any minorities, indicated that they’re going to go after the coach they want and not broaden their coaching search to include minority candidates, which the Rooney Rule is designed to make teams do.
“They’re making a mockery of the rule right now,” Edwards said.

The rooney rule makes a mockery of itself. Feminism and affirmative action are the same crap. "We're equal at everything, except for these things we're better at!"
Will the drug-addled Negro crack whore receive a pony as compensation?
If the Rooney Rule was expanded to players it would be enforced for QB's and kickers only.
American pink ribbon ball is a fag sport, don't give a f*ck, don't watch it, it will crumble under it's own weight like the Roman Gladiators did.

Beautiful! But it would still get them fined, if not bring even more suspensions in the front office for Contempt of Commissioner.

Wrong metric. It's not percentage of black players vs. percentage of all African-Americans, it's the ratio of black coaches to black players which counts.
It's still a ridiculous and arbitrary metric, but there you go.
While I agree w/ Vox completely about the Katrina-homeless crack whore, I will say that Edwards is willfully ignorant.
Peter King points out that every minority should take every opportunity to interview b/c it makes you a stronger candidate. It's part of the maturation process, as you learn what gets asked in an interview, and you prepare better for next time. Sitting back pouting about a team's choice only hurts yourself.
Gee, I'm sure that's the first time that's ever happened to affirmative action candidates.
OT - Vox, seen this on autism... up 78% in last decade... CDC
Goodell is such a pussy bitch. I hope he gets eggs thrown at him when he goes to watch the Super Bowl, which interestingly is in New Orleans next season, of all places.
I don't know why the AA types are getting uptight, don't they realize it wouldn't be a permanent job? Payton's only going to be gone for a season.
Trayvon would want it that way.
Please. Edwards hasn't had a cogent thought in 25 years. He's often on Mike and Mike, and I just don't get it. He NEVER adds any insight. Period. Never.
The NFL will be playing two handed touch soon. What a bunch of whiners.
"why isn't there a Rooney Rule for players?"
Just occurred to me that if there was one, the Broncos would've had to interview JaMarcus Russell, Daunte Culpepper, or Vince Young before hiring Manning....
The NFL will be playing two handed touch soon. What a bunch of whiners. The home team is challenging the ruling on the field that the defender got him with both hands.
Everything is about race. Isn't that great? And it's only going to get worse as this country becomes more and more balkanized.
Why can't certain groups in this country just leave people the hell alone instead of always agitating for more and more handouts and privileges?
Why isn't the NFL addressing the problem of insufficient Asians and women on the football field?
Is not the Lingerie Football League sufficient?
Is not the Lingerie Football League sufficient?
Separate but equal? Raciss!
Lingerie football is a good start but I won't be satisfied until the teams are fully coed and both sexes don lingerie. I might even learn the game rules if that happened.
I wonder of the Rooney rule applied to the commissioner's job when Goodell was interviewing?
Your individual race in America is whatever you say it is. I understand, there are obvious limitations....but essentially, your race is whatever you think you are. As "important" as it might be to some people, there is no objective metric used to assign an individual to one race instead of another or even in addition to another.
I remember a woman who was in my classes in undergrad, who was very fair and redheaded with freckles. She managed to convince the college administration that she was "black" for purposes of financial aid. I asked her how she pulled that off and she said.....it was easy, I just told them THAT was what my MOTHER said. No more questions were asked.
In the old days, race was determined by the race of the mother at birth. (This was actually a pretty good rule since we found out through genetics that 60% of the DNA comes from the female side.) Society might have a difficult time figuring out who the father might be (and his race) but they are pretty sure about the race of the mother. In interracial situations, which did occur, if your mom was black.....so were you. If your mom was white, so were you. In the case of Mr. Obama, under the old rules, he would be considered white, not black, because his mom is white. (Growing up in Hawaii and Indonesia, raised by white grandparents, he would not know much about blacks.)
The Census is conducted every ten years and it includes some determination of race. The basic question is....who are you? People answer in terms of who they believe they are, regardless of information to the contrary. My dad is a good example of a Cherokee who has always insisted he is white. He looks a bit like a Cherokee and his grandmother (and her sister) lived in a little shack in the back yard behind my grandfather's house. Neither one of them spoke any English.
Correction.....my dad's grandmother (and her sister) lived in a little shack in the backyard of HIS grandfathers house....not mine. Sorry for the confusion.
Maybe they're agitating racial tensions until people see what a mess it is and give up the whole thing. Not like logical discourse has produced any results. But there I go being optimistic again.
A drug addled Negro crack whore would be perfect for coaching the Saints. Way better than a prescription drug addled Tuna.
What a subtle way to connect with the majority of NO fans and stick it to Rooney's ambassadorial ass!
Bourbon street, bitchez.
Even the teams that hire minority coaches know exactly who they're going to hire before they start the interview process. The Saints are making no more a mockery of the rule than every other NFL team.
Tony Dungy and Mike Tomlin have won Super Bowls. Lovie Smith and Jim Caldwell have taken teams there. The Rooney Rule has worked and it is time to put it to pasture. It's not like the Saints are trying to hire a grad assistant from McNeese State to fill in, they want Bill f*cking Parcells, future Hall of Famer. Do they really need to justify that decision to the public? Are blacks in this country really going to be rioting in the streets if the Saints chose Parcells?
> OT - Vox, seen this on autism... up 78% in last decade... CDC
Well, when you redefine autism to suit your needs, proclaiming an increase of that magnitude is easy.
> I wonder of the Rooney rule applied to the commissioner's job when Goodell was interviewing?
More importantly, will it be applied to ownership the next time a team comes up for sale?
The upside of the Rooney Rule is that the Steelers will be stuck with minority head coaches in perpetuity.
Salt:
I don't think the very high incidence of autism is accurate. I have an autistic child and her behaviour is very distinctive. She twirls, she repeats actions and phrases and remembers everything you ever promised to do all the way back for decades. Down to the day you said you would do it.
We hang out with disabled kids. And they don't act that way.
This is a bad thing because the things that help one habilitate one deficit arent going to help another one.
For example an autistic kid with amazing memory can memorize phrases and scenarios to get her thru a lot of situations. And she will need that memorization.
That kind of rote memorization will not help and might not even work for other kids.
There could be a whole new reality TV series on Rooney rule interviews. It has the potential to be pure greatness.
"I wonder of the Rooney rule applied to the commissioner's job when Goodell was interviewing?"
I was thinking the same thing. I was also wondering if the NFLPA interviewed any white guys before rehiring the guy they have running the outfit right now.
I like the idea you had with the all female squadron. That was good. They should make one all black team. Everyone black. All coaches, cheerleaders, staff, everything. See how well that works and laugh hysterically when they fail in some horrible and comedic fashion.
...drug-addled Mulatto crack whore...
Just so there is no appearance of racism.
Why is the NFL wasting time? Just cut to the chase and establish that a team may have five total quarterbacks on the roster.
Of those quarterbacks, no more than 3 shall be white. Four is too many, two is not enough, and five is right out!!!

The problem could easily be solved, then, by approaching it from the opposite direction. Sounds like too many black players for the # of black coaches -- so fire a bunch of black players. No members of any specific race has to be hired that way. Grin...
Consistency, when it comes to the culture changing "victimhood" mantra, is not .. consistent.
