Republican VP pick

So, I expect Rubio.
We can say with a high degree of confidence that Mitt Romney’s vice-presidential pick has largely come down to three men: former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, U.S. Sen. Rob Portman, and House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan. And it’s more than possible that Romney has already made up his mind. All three VP finalists bring something different to the table. Pawlenty is the loyal outsider, who would enable a Romney-Pawlenty ticket to run as former governors vowing to take on Washington; Pawlenty also potentially would add some blue-collar appeal to the ticket. Portman would be the insider, someone who knows the ways of Washington and who could help govern starting on Day 1. And Ryan would be the crusader, who wants to substantially transform America’s entitlement programs and who would excite a good portion of the GOP’s conservative base. Indeed, Ryan has emerged a VERY REAL possibility, but he also brings the most risk. If Romney selects him, it’s more than conceivable that the dominant campaign discussion in the fall won’t be the economy -- but rather the deficit and Medicare. Of course, there was already a good chance the Ryan plan will get plenty attention regardless of Romney’s VP pick.I don't think it will be any of the three. I think it will be Rubio, despite his repeated denials of interest in leaving the Senate. Being a Republican and therefore fearful of raciss, Romney will want something to circumvent Obama's inevitable portrayal of the Republican pair as two rich white guys. If it's Pawlenty, he's a joke and we'll know Romney intends to tank the election. Ryan would be a more serious choice, but wouldn't really buy Romney anything since people already assume Captain Underoos knows what he's doing when it comes to financial rapine. Portman is a Bushnik and doesn't bring Romney anything he doesn't already have, so unless he's got some sort of deal with the Houston Mafia, I can't see him getting any real benefit out of that option.
So, I expect Rubio.

All things being equal, Pawlenty is a bad bet simply because he has a weak-sounding name that makes you uncertain how to pronounce it, sort of like Dukakis (this is gonna sound stupid, but, well, you know...). "Romney/Pawlenty". Two long "ee"s at the end. Doesn't sound like a winner's title, sounds girly. "Romney/Portman" is value-neutral; not bad, but not particularly good, either. Dull. Besides, I follow domestic politics slightly more carefully than the average drone, and I've never heard of Portman, don't know who or what he is. (In contrast, I knew very well who Sarah Palin was, many months before the VP pick.) He could be good or bad, dunno, but the very fact that I've never heard of him suggests he lacks spark.
"Romney/Ryan" sounds good. Agree with him or not, Paul Ryan is a smart guy (which anyone can tell after hearing him for about 90 seconds), and he's got a bit of bite in his demeanor. But mostly, Ryan is a salt-of-the-earth type name, and "Romney/Ryan" just _sounds_ good. Ryan already has a national profile.
"Romney/Rubio" also sounds good, it has a pleasing rhythm. I am against pandering to Hispanics, but for sheer aesthetic quality, Romney/Rubio places a strong second behind Romney/Ryan. But of course, Rubio is a neophyte, Rubio is a foreign-symp, and choosing Rubio (because he brings neither extensive experience nor intellectual firepower to the ticket, merely some mediocre charisma and of course, his sacred Latino-hood) would indicate, more strongly than anything else, a formal apology for Romney's being white. This would be an existential catastrophe of major proportions, an official recognition that whiteness is in its essence illegitimate: basically an official recognition that this country has ceased to exist. But I suppose it might help Romney lock up Florida, now one of our foreign satellite alien-nations.

He's too cowardly and intellectually inert to do this, but if Romney were smart he would turn that into a tar-baby. He would let Obama begin his subliminal race-war, like Alexander Nevsky drawing the Tatars out onto the ice, then he would turn the tables and make this election a stand to re-establish white America as the spine, indeed, as the actual true identity, of America, and make the whole thing explode in Obama's foreign face. But he's not bright enough, or courageous enough, to do this.
Might as well make this stand now; in two more election cycles it will no longer be possible, and the only realistic options will be some form of partition or secession, a coup, or the official dissolution of the USA as any sort of entity with any more meaning than a parking lot.
Go into the white, Mitt, go towards the white!

Two candidates for the job are mentioned over and over again – two wonderful, charismatic public servants whose only problem is they are not constitutionally eligible to be president.
They are Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida and Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana.
Don’t get me wrong. I like both of these guys. If I were eligible to vote in Florida or Louisiana, I would vote to re-elect them. I would support either one for almost any job in America. But there is one job for which they are, by chance of birth, 100 percent, totally and inarguably ineligible to hold office – and that is the presidency of the United States.
The Dems would have a field day with the fodder laid at their feet given all the Obama eligibility profiling.
Would be pure comedy.

That's not true... that's imposable...
Rand Paul would be the best choice, because he would inherit a fair fraction of his father's support. When you consider the fraction of presidents that expire in office, there's a nontrivial probability that any vp becomes the president.

That Rubio is constitutionally ineligible might yet be a problem for the captain on the R side of the ruling duopoly.
Ron Paul would be the best choice. It would only be a bully pulpit, but that might be most effective. And then there would always be the hope some tragedy would strike and succession would be invoked. That slim possibility would give me enough pause to consider actually voting for the GOP ticket. Romney could then lie more credibly that he would take on the financial system with Mr. End-the-Fed next to him. And he would boost the pro-life credentials too. And balancing the budget. And probably deliver Texas and a few other states - I'm not sure of the full electoral calculus.
Let me be the Vice President. Born in Florida, raised in Texas and my kids are a quarter Mexican. Gun control means my son's are currently going to the ranch with their buddies to pick up a tractor, but grab the guns to go and plan on target practice while there. Plus we think a mexican lion comes through from time to time. We've seen plenty of proof. Makes them better shots. My whole Family on my Wifes side are big supporters of The Dr. Paul. Just don't expect me to be PC or tolerate dumbasses.
I came from a fairly liberal family and I am a proud blacksheep. Dr. Paul is one of a very few politicians I trust. I have voted for him for our rep since I could vote. I have son's. Why should I want them risked in somebody elses fight? I would prefer they marry sweet young Ladies who give us Grandkids I can spoil and give back as a cosmic payback for what me and mom went through getting them to that point. Tradition brings balance to the force.

I would, first, like to see Rand Paul as VP. After that Jindal followed by Ryan. OK, either Jindal or Ryan would be a good ckoice but Rand first, if Romney is small enough. Any real establishment type would, as Vox indicated, a setup to tank the election.
The only good thing, if it is that, were Obama win then, should the USA survive another four years, is that a really hard lesson will have be handed out. But, like taking the horse to water, would enough learn the lesson?
I don't think America would survive four more of Obama. He is obviously a Manchurian candidate in place to complete the dismemberment of our country. He should have been impeached many times over for his illegal acts. The congress should have defunded Obama care long before now. Whats all this symbolic repeal crap with a senate all ready and willing to not pass it as well? I will answer: Too many traitors with too much baggage being held over their heads to do anything even remotely like wants best for the country.

I'm down here in Jindal land. He isn't any better than the rest of those mentioned. They just gave state money to a tech company to set up shop. What gets announced is the creation of jobs, but what gets done is the creation of HB1 visa's for his fellow Indians. As a group, Indians are very tight down here and I've watched them bring family over time and time again.

the other problem, must be careful about bringing in a Senator, winning the Senate must be part of Romney's objective... senator underoos is notw going to cooperate with president underoos even if their underwear matches.
Romney is in trouble with a significant portion of the GOP base, similar to the difficulty McCain had. It took a Palin to make me swallow my disgust with him. What would it take to get the conservative base onboard with a Romney ticket?

If it is Pawlenty or Portman, the GOP plans to lose. If it is Rubio, they plan to try to win by abandoning the conservative base (dubious proposition). Rand Paul or another yet-unnamed fiscal conservative means they're serious about winning. Ron Paul is too much to consider given how badly they've demonized him. Too many of the conservative base have no idea why they hate him. They are just told to do so.

Paul Ryan would be the winning formula. Midwestern. Looking at the map, you need a middle America guy to excite the base in those swing states. He's been tested with his budget proposal on a national spotlight. He's also relatively young and good looking.
Who cares about a VP pick. Hitler on wine bottles is a more important issue to those who want you to remember certain things.
Unless Rubio has something in his past that makes him vulnerable, he is the logical and likely choice. Considering other recently discussed VP candidate possibilities, Rice would be a disaster for Romney and would only serve to enervate the conservative base while failing to win over the black vote. Rand Paul isn't from a swing state and doesn't seem to have as broad an appeal as Rubio.
Rubio has already shown himself to be a skilled compromiser (not intended as a compliment to him) and opportunist, which makes me think that he and Romney probably do get along well with each other.
But I agree with Desert Cat -- the best outcome is a GOP Congress spending the next four years investigating Obama and gearing up to campaign against Hillary in 2016.
But for sheer entertainment value, I would love to see Romney will pick Huntsman and spend the rest of the election cycle denying that there is a Mormon conspiracy to take over the country.

A Ryan pick is stupid for both Ryan and Romney. I don't think Ryan is as stupid as Romney, so he will decline.
Rubio may be ineligible, but can Democrats attack him as ineligible? Picking Rubio is Trump bait, the whole fall will be about how Rubio and Obama are ineligible.

They also think he is ducking the issue every time he says something isn't a federal power but must be left to the states. While I agree with him on that, many just don't understand, yes MPAI.
As he is pro-Life, pro-Gun and anti-Fed, he will always get my vote.
Rice, Rand Paul, and a few others supposedly on the list have been given prime speaking roles at the convention, something that almost certainly eliminates them from contention.
Still remaining are Pawlenty, Portman, Rubio, and McDonnell. All but Pawlenty are scheduled to be on Romney's bus tour.

Personally, I really do hope that there is some kind of an evil cabal of Bankster, Illuminati, Bilderberger, CFR, Trilateral, Globalist Joos pulling the strings, selecting prez and vp candidates, and generally running things. The thought that Bill Clinton, W, and Barack were and are actually large and in charge, is almost too frightening to contemplate. Much like seeing a loaded pistol in the hands of a pre-school child.
Well, the surest sign that the "fix" is in, Goldman and GE employees have shifted their financial support from Obama and the Democrats to Romney and the Republicans, thus insuring a continuation of corporate welfare from the bi-factional ruling party.

The best VP candidate for Romney is none of the above. Sure, a white guy is boring, but Rubio isn't the best Hispanic candidate. It would be His-pander at its worst. So no hispanic, black, or woman candidate this time.
The best white candidate must not overshadow Romney. In fact, the focus should be entirely on Obama versus Romney, not Biden versus "fill in the blank".
Instead of picking a former governor or a senator, how about a house member?
I vote David Christopher Holcomb attourney-at-law. I think he would go a long way toward bringing in the youth vote, evangelicals, and the insane.

Intrade had Paul Ryan at 31% this afternoon when I got home from work. I looked into making a wager, but found that US residents are pretty much limited to mailing a check to Ireland in order to fund an account.
He is at 94% now, with word that a charter jet sits in his hometown, Secret Service is headed to his house, and Romney is making the announcement early tomorrow morning on board the USS Wisconsin.
Sigh.
