A MAGIC BROKEN free on Kindle
A MAGIC BROKEN is free today from Amazon. If you already have a copy, you may wish to go ahead and grab the new one as it fixes six errata found in the previous version.
There are still some spots left for those interested in reviewing THE WARDOG'S COIN. So, if you wish to do so, please let me know via email. However, just to be clear, I'm not sending out the books for at least a month, because I'm not finished with the second of the two stories. A few of you will have already read one of the two, as an earlier version of QALABI DAWN used to be posted on my old Eternal Warriors site.
UPDATE: A MAGIC BROKEN has cracked the top 100 Free on Amazon and is now at #3 in Fantasy Epic, #97 overall. It will be interesting to see how high it can go, and if this will spark any consequent interest in A THRONE OF BONES.
UPDATE 2: Black Gate informs its readers about the Amazon offer and includes a mini-review of the novella.
UPDATE 3: As does the indefatigable Instapundit.

Is this a Christmas gift from Vox? I didn't know you cared....
If it means anything... being that it was free... I actually went through the huge morass of figuring out how to download to my phone from Kindle. Well, okay, I'm not that lazy. I just didn't realize it would be so easy. But I DID do it for your book, if that counts. Ah well.
It'd better be good or... Hmm, what do you do with a free gift you don't like? You cornered me and you didn't even work at it. You are slick. Ah, but there will be people who complain. Got to hand it to them. There is nothing that says coddled, indolent, ungrateful, and spoiled like someone who complains about a freebie with no hooks.
Tried to download it for the errata. Since I had already purchased it some time ago Amazon declined to send me the newest one, though it was free. Told me in was already in my amazon archives.
I suppose I could contact them and get it pushed onto my kindle or try and remove it from their archives [if you can even do this from home]. End of the day; 6 errata are not worth the effort.
All this in case anyone else had the problem and am curious to see what they did to correct [if they, indeed, want to expend the effort for 6 errata]
Anyway: thanks for the thought. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
I sent a copy of Throne of Bones to my friend for Christmas... Will let him know to download the prequel. Thanks and Merry Christmas.
I got it
Anyone found a way to download actual book files from the Kindle Cloud Reader?
Downloaded it and already where their is an escape planned. Sorry to wait until it is free, the budget is under a bit of strain due to Sandy. Hoping to treat myself to the kindle of your TOB though soon. Thanks.
and that would be "there".
Thank you. Can't wait to read it!
And Merry Christmas!
Downloaded on my Kindle. And Merry Christmas to you Vox, SB, and to the Ilk.
Thank you for the book. As well as getting to read a book I am forced to try out a kindle reader. all to the good
I guess I need to write that review for AMB like I promised I would.
I liked it and plan to do a review. Is TOB the continuation of this?

Glad to hear it. ATOB is more than a continuation. It is a much larger scale story that contains, amongst other things, the continuation of the story of the two perspective characters in AMB.
I picked up AMB a week ago. Very good. I was reminded of the short stories in James Enge's This Crooked Way.
I'm a couple of chapters into ATOB and enjoying it, but it's a different animal. It's strange to read fantasy wherein humanity and its culture are interesting, rather than a mundane counterpoint to the colorful dwarves and elves (and gobbos, on occasion).

(laughs) That would just about kill Enge to hear that. He threw a pretty impressive hissy fit when I started blogging at Black Gate.
Thanks, man!
"Anyone found a way to download actual book files from the Kindle Cloud Reader?" - damaged justice
On your computer they should be in Documents in a folder named "My Kindle Content". From there it's just a matter of converting them to whatever format you want using an online converter.
Thanks Vox, downloaded to my phone this morning. Will try to get to reading it soon.
A merry Christmas to you and Spacebunny and the rest of your clan!
One question: should I go back and read Summa Elvetica first? I have the paperback, just never actually got around to reading it (I do intend to... but I have a stack of unread books and not much spare time)
Congrats, Vox. I started reading it today and love it so far. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Thank you.
And Merry Christmas everyone.
Merry Christmas.
I've bought Throne of Bones, Summa Elvetica and grabbed the free A Magic Broken, all on Kindle. Great prices - especially A Magic Broken - one of the best prices I have seen for a book.
Anyway - what order do I read them in?
James Stephenson.
Anyway - what order do I read them in?
Chronologically, the order is SE, AMB, ATOB. However, I would recommend reading them in this order: AMB, ATOB, SE.
One question: should I go back and read Summa Elvetica first?
No, you'll probably enjoy it more if you read ATOB first.
Hey Vox, great story and universe! I agree with Krul from the previous comments that The Master of Cats is awesome. I recommend that you release it as a standalone novella sometime so people who don't have or never finished Summa will be able to read it.
Have a Happy Christmas and thanks for the readings!
Got a Kindle, now. Got yer free book. I'll give it a go!
