It is educational to see that when a former policeman strikes out violently at the police, he does what the police all too often do, which is target their families. This is a dangerous development I have been expecting ever since the militarization of the USA has increasingly led to family members and dogs being killed by police as a result of the dynamic entry tactics now being used on a regular basis:

In the online postings, Dorner specifically named the father of Monica Quan, the Cal State Fullerton assistant basketball coach who was found dead Sunday, along with her fiance, Keith Lawrence. Her father, Randy Quan, a retired LAPD captain, was involved in the review process that ultimately led to Dorner's dismissal.Based on what we know about the police departments, the way they treat whistleblowers, and the way they resolutely cover up the violent and criminal acts of the "one or two bad apples" that somehow never seem to be weeded out from any department, it would not surprise me to learn that many, if not most, of the allegations of LAPD misbehavior contained in Dorner's manifesto are true.
A former U.S. Navy reservist, Dorner was fired in 2009 for allegedly making false statements about his training officer.... Dorner complained that Quan and others did not fairly represent him at the review hearing.
"Your lack of ethics and conspiring to wrong a just individual are over. Suppressing the truth will lead to deadly consequences for you and your family. There will be an element of surprise where you work, live, eat, and sleep," he wrote, referring to Quan and several others.

If that wasn't bad enough... they shot up a second truck just down the street. They told the owner to turn his truck around but again, it wasn't fast enough for the cops because they shot his truck up too!

Quite right Cheddar. A police spox said that police throughout SoCal are treating every call as a possible ambush situation. What really riles me is cops are shown carrying M16's (not AR-15's) and stainless Mini-14's with the 20 round mags I am not allowed to own as a law-biding citizen. I hope this incident will take the wind out of the sails of the "only cops should have guns" crowd.

Some years ago I stood near that very intersection speaking with an officer. He explained that he was the only officer on duty at that moment and commented on how remarkable it was that a single officer controlled 150000 people. I pointed out that it was not he who controlled the city but that the city largely controlled itself. He stopped talking to me.
This looks to be an interesting experiment in what we were discussing here a few weeks ago, namely, how effective the force wielded by the government against a single armed man truly is.
The experiment will reveal that pre-emption is the key.

According to a report on FOX 11 in LA he reported his training officer, a female sergeant, kicked a man that was being arrested. ....They said HE lied and now people have DIED.

Too often, people are attracted to a line of work for what we would all call "the wrong reasons". We see this anytime a person has his or her own agenda, separate and apart from their duty or job requirements.
I have always suggested that local police should be a citizen function. I would not even mind if police duty were rotated much like the jury pool. Anyone who NOT keenly interested in being a cop, would probably make a good cop. Imagine if the police patrol on the night shift was manned by middle-aged (adult) men, serving only one night a week, who otherwise live in stable families and work a regular job. What we need is cooler heads, not interested in excitement, who had rather be fishing or bowling.
The chairman of the civil service commission in Nashville and I had lunch a few years ago. (A fine and decent man.) He told me that he was part of a big mistake when he served on the city council. The council convinced themselves that they needed to professionalize the police force by requiring new cops to have a college degree in criminal justice or something appropriate. Since then, the cops in Nashville have become one of the more professional police forces in the country. Unfortunately, they tend to be younger, high strung, and more likely to shoot. He explained, back in the old days, we had cops who were just tough rednecks and they had no problem getting physical if the suspect did not want to get in the patrol car or wanted to play the old game of "bop the cop". The rednecks would simply use physical force to compel compliance. The college-educated cops whip out their Glock and shoot the resister a half dozen times. This seems to be part of the problem. The over reliance on ex-military (combat arms) with PTSD seems to explain the rest....running around dressed like ninjas, overly aggressive, and take no prisoners attitude, explains most of the rest.
There are other problems too. Far too many cops are in police cruisers and too few on foot patrol in assigned neighborhoods. Now that they have air conditioning, they cannnot hear anything when on patrol. Far too detached from what is happening off the streets.

He tried to hijack a boat in Pt Loma, but left the boat owner generally unharmed, but who knows what actions he will take to avoid apprehension. But there are many many more anxious cops than this one guy. Having years ago in SD County been repeatedly pulled over and mistaken for a rape suspect simply because of my vehicle, I'll tell you if i owned a similar vehicle to this one I would leave it at home until he's dead or in jail-- no joke.
By the boat hijack attempt and him shedding items as he moves closer to the border, i'd say he is heading to Mexico-- as many of his own suspects have done over the years (as he worked LAPD.)

Going to be interesting to see what he does. An attempted boat-jacking a short distance from the border was not likely a feint, but he may have changed his mind once that failed. Then again, there are a lot of boats he still could have taken and no one yet knows about it.

Despite what he thinks and wants out of it, and what the media will say, this guy's actions and manifesto are a great argument AGAINST gun control. His turning against his own and his Pledge Of Obamaledgiance shows how easily a LE nutter can turn on others for "the greater good".
This one is *currently* focusing on LE and personal revenge. But what if he instead focused on those who show insufficient respect for Dear Leader? There are hundreds of thousands of them who don't go completely insane but who gladly ignore other's rights and safety for a "higher purpose" only they and their comrades can see.

"When the truth comes out, the killing stops." No, when they extra-judicially murder you, the killing stops. I don't doubt there is corruption in the LAPD and for all I know, his claims of witnessing arrestee abuse first hand could be true.
Nonetheless, it doesn't justify murder. He talks a good game of C4ISR and whatnot. I doubt he'll last long. For all we know, this could be the first use of a UAV to kill an American citizen in the contiguous United States. Stop and think about that for a second.

Lars Larsen here in Portland has a guy (Justin Gambos?) on the radio now, saying he served with Dorner in the Navy. He was apparently with him in Navy flight school. Dorner failed flight school, but kept him on as a reservist in another field. "He always had a smile on his face. Played football in Texas". Dorner had not been himself since the lawsuit/firing.

Killing cops is not murder. This is a war. Killing legitimate targets is part of war. When police kill citizens, it is not murder, they are not prosecuted, they are not brought to justice. There are good policeman, met a couple, while the one in charge slammed my head against the hood against his car.The other two police made him back off. I was polite and followed all his commands, but he just didn't like me. The Judge knew me and dismissed charges, all was on tape. That was a little over 10 years ago. I guess it depends on who you come across. All cops are not bad. All Judges are not bad. But when I read his police report 90% of everything he said was a lie and the the video proved it.

Old news I posted before from over a year ago, but this involved at more than 15 or so rounds going off, presumably after the truck chase and during foot pursuit. Brother heard it from about several blocks away while watching the copters beam on the scene; semi auto he said. Was never reported in follow-up articles.
In fact, the articles that mentioned the sheriff's dept passing the buck to the LAPD and vice versa on responsibility for the chase and crash were amended soon after, to the point of no mention.

My first thought was that the color of the truck shot doesn't even match the description they're broadcasting on the Amber Alert (photo 12 I think). Then again, electric blue may look similar to grey when it's street lighting at 4 in the morning.
Which begs the question of how far the cops were from the truck between the time they first saw it, the time they issued commands (if at all) to the time they opened fire. According to quoted source in Vox's post, another truck was riddled up not far from the first.

My favorite story is about a 7-11 convience store that was robbed in Memphis a few years ago. An armed perp had the 7-11 clerk and four customers in the store with their hands up. A "Dickless Tracy" (female officer) by herself, got the call nearby and rushed into the parking lot with the cruiser lit up. This startled everyone in the store and distracted the robber, so they all bolted and run out the door....leaving the robber behind. The female police officer acted quickly...threw open the door of the police car and shot all five of them as they rushed out of the door! Great shootin' deadeye. Including the 7-11 clerk in his red vest. The robber stayed in the store and surrendered after more cops arrived.
Of course, there was a police investigation, and the department found that the officer in question did not follow proper police proceedures when gunning down the five people leaving the store. SHE was required to complete some retraining before returning to duty.
See how it works?

In Dorners case, I think he felt he got a raw deal in life and decided to go the long route; take some along for the ride. Wouldn't be the first time that's happened. A couple of observations here in SoCal:
They almost NEVER describe the perps on the news let alone show a picture. They have been showing his smiling face on the news every fifteen minutes. Reminds me of the Trevon Martin pix. Katching a Kop Killer trumps political correctness.
They are reporting on the "inadvertent" shooting of the Hispanic ladies who made the mistake of using their truck to deliver newspapers. They have KILLED the reporting on the guy's truck that was shot up not two minutes after the ladies were shot.
The cops are "all in" on catching this guy. They know that if they don't catch him this is a green light for anybody with half a plan and half a brain to make their displeasure with the government known...and still get away.
